Earth Day 2009!
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Hey everyone!

Finally spring has arrived here in my hometown of Toronto!
The first big event happening this spring is Earth Day; taking place next week Wednesday on April 22, 2009.

As I thought to myself about Earth Day, the following thoughts came up:
1) What will I be doing for Earth Day?
2) How can I best show my appreciation for our planet?
3) What kind of actions can I take towards this day as I get older?

And after some 'thinking' time, I came up with the following solutions:
1) On Earth Day I will be participating in my high school's annual cleanup which involves cleaning up our sidewalks, painting our underpasses and planting new plants in our school's parking lot
2) I can best show my appreciation for our planet by making a conscious effort to reuse things whenever I can, accepting less packaging when purchasing products, and using resources such as electricity and water in the appropriate amounts
3)As I get older I would love to participate in larger efforts in Toronto that have to do with Earth Day, and to be able to keep up with my efforts in reducing my carbon footprint :)

The Global Financial Crisis
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Hey everyone! Since the upcoming Panorama issue is going to be about the reccession and all of the events surrounding the global economy issues, I figured it would be great if I am able to submit some work for publishing in that issue.

I was brainstorming a couple of thoughts so here goes:

[Where Currency Lays]

Walking along your sidewalk you see a penny,
And think nothing of it.
A man behind you, a poor Tom if you will, trekking closely behind
Grabs it, adding to his collection.

A small business owner glances outside of his store
through an old window wondering if maybe, just maybe
he’ll make it through this economic rollercoaster.

On the other side of town in a glass skyscraper a CEO turns his chair around to face the storm that he sees coming. No one knows how hard this could get but we can all try to cope.

Rewards & Achievement
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Hmm, so I was walking to school today and decided to get one of those free publications (I think it was the 'Metro' or '24'). Anyway, as I glanced at the cover (a brief coverage of the Golden Globes) it got me thinking: As humans have we devised award shows, trophies, and other means of rewards as a way to show off 'the accomplishers' and to motivate 'the losers' into working harder for the next round?

Think to yourself about a world where achievements were not honoured or even mentioned. What a weird world that would be... =|.

Anyway fellow TIG members, what do you think about rewards and achievements?

My First Blog...Ever!
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Hey everyone,
My name is Chantelle and I currently intern for TakingITGlobal at the Toronto office. I have been contributing to TIG since October 2008 and I've learned so much already!

So far I have been editing submissions from TIG members for Panorama, working on the Weekly Update that gets sent out to our English speaking members, and also approving Global Gallery art.

Alot has been going on at TIG:
1) Youth delegates going to Poznan, Poland in December
2) Global Gallery 'Our Voices, Our Climate' Contest
3) Various Live Chats
and so much more!

I'm so excited to be working an organization like this one, and so if anyone has any questions for me, feel free to ask! =)

Have a great week everyone,

- Chantelle
